Hiring Millar signals Brightstar means Business
20:20 Logistics' MD, Rod Millar, is to join US distribution giant Brightstar to aid its aggressive expansion plans.
Sources confirmed that Millar's exit from 20:20 was prompted by the offer of a senior role at the Miami-based distributor, as tipped in last week's Mobile. The former 20:20 MD left the office on 19 October, ostensibly for a holiday, but has not returned.
Millar has spent six and a half years at 20:20. In his new position, he is expected to concentrate on Brightstar's growth outside the UK, at least initially.
Brightstar has a presence throughout the Americas, in India, Australia, Singapore and the Phillipines, and it has recently established a trading company in the UK.
Brightstar is known to have approached a series of senior distribution managers with a view to building a high-profile team to run its UK operation. The £1.6bn turnover company recently secured a £130m loan to boost its global expansion.
Brightstar's vice president of marketing, Sally Lange, told Mobile that Brightstar had no comment to make on its UK plans at this stage.
