A Taiwanese company which has built much of its commercial success on supplying components for Nokia, has revealed that Apple has placed an order for 12 million handsets.

Additionally, an American analyst is claiming that there will be not one but two ‘iPhones’ produced by Foxconn.

Although Apple remains tight-lipped about the as yet unannounced products, a report in Taiwan’s Commercial Times quoting sources within Foxconn’s parent, Hon Hai Precision Industry, is being given widespread credence.

Rumours point to the initial iPhone (a name which Apple has trademarked) being a candy bar device with basic telephony functionality but capable of playing ITunes music tracks.

However, Shaw Wu, an analyst with American Technology Research, claims that Apple is definitely planning a second smartphone which will feature Apple’s own IM [Instant Messaging] client – iChat.

Wu is even suggesting the second phone might be branded ‘iChat Mobile’.

Foxconn makes a sensible choice since it already has contacts with Apple as well as Sony. Moreover it claims to be capable of building 50 million handsets a year.

The news marks a major challenge to existing handset vendors like Nokia and Sony Ericsson which are positioning their own musicphones as a direct alternative to an Apple iPod. Even Alcatel has got in on the act with its OT-E801 handset which it claims to be the industry’s first sub-£50 prepay

With the recent bombardment of Windows Mobile devices being released, it’s kind of hard for anything to really catch our attention — until now. E-TEN’s latest offering, the glofiish X500, brings to the table what is being called the “World’s thinnest Pocket PC Phone that combines GPS and WiFi in one device.” This handset comes feature-packed with a quad-band GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 radio supporting EDGE data, a 400MHz Samsung S3C2440 processor, 128MB ROM and 64MB of RAM, a 2.8″ QVGA touchscreen display, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and a 2 megapixel camera with flash. It seems like E-TEN still had some extra room left, though, seeing how they also decided to throw in SiRFStar III GPS for when we get lost, microSD slot for saving all of our music and pictures, and even found some space for an FM tuner. Of course, with new Pocket PC devices being released almost weekly, we wonder just how long this phone will reign supreme.

It looks like our favorite mobile tipster Roc A Fella is at it again. This time he shows us the soon to be released Pantech PN-820 for Verizon Wireless, latest addition to their growing PDA lineup. This clamshell bad boy runs on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone with an EV-DO dual band radio, 1.3 megapixel camera, expandable memory via miniSD, Bluetooth, and a QVGA display. Pantech has updated the color scheme from what we previously have seen, and we like it way more seeing how the all-black scheme might be a fingerprint magnet.
